Porthcawl Park Benches

There was an article in yesterdays local paper (The Western Mail) titled ‘Dilapidated promenade benches creating seaside slum’ (view article) The seaside resort in question is Porthcawl and I quite frequently visit the place as a really good friend of mine lives there. In an hour walking around the seaside town, i didn’t find one dilapidated bench. However, I did see some lovely benches, old and new. Here’s a sample..

My Photography Resolution

Happy New Year to You all! I rarely make resolutions but one I have made for this year is to take time out to do more ‘photography for me’. I’ve spent a lot of time over the holiday season tidying up my picture catalog from last year and here’s one that I’ve pulled together to inspire me to get out and shoot more in 2010.

Video learnings.

So I guess the natural step from taking photographs is to shoot video. I’ve been dabbling with some simple video clips and publishing them for a few years now but the step-up from snap-shoot video to even a semi-decent clip, I’m finding, is just huge.

In addition to the obvious exposure/composition challenges, the lighting challenge is enormous. Plus, of course, there’s sound. Sound is the biggest added dimension that just throws everything out. Noise that is virtually inaudible under normal circumstances becomes an overpowering boom when you shoot video.

But hey, I’m not about whinging, I’m about learning.

I’ve decided that I’m going to invest some time this summer in learning about shooting, producing and publishing video. I’ll try and publish some examples on this site but will more than likely point you to other locations. My learnings, I’ll publish here.

Picassa slideshows – free and easy

Here’s something worth trying.. Picassa Slideshows..All you need is a Picassa Album (they’re free at picasa.google.com). Then add some photos to a slideshow and you’ll get a bit of code to publish to your website or blog. This took me just 5 minutes to create.

Cardiff Bay – Assembly Building

It’s a real shame that this beautiful building is being wasted on a bunch of second rate politicians. There’s a real feeling of space and openness and the use of contrasting glass, slate and wood works brilliantly.

The building was opened by The Queen on St David’s day (1st March) 2006 and it’s a real landmark building down Cardiff Bay.

I took this shot and I think the reflections of the clouds in the glass adds a real feeling of depth to the scene. I’m sure that there are many other interesting angles to photograph and I look forward to getting back down Cardiff Bay really soon.

iPhone Diary

I’ve eventually got myself organised to start a small project that I’ve been thinking about for a while. My iphone photo blog is just that, a blog that I publish an image a day to from my iphone. I’ve already noticed some interesting benefits with Google indexing that I’ll be commenting on elsewhere. I’ve just about kept it going since May09 now. Please do take a look and post me a note with your thoughts.
